RTI is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Value Chain Manager on an anticipated USAID-funded Feed the Future Democratic Republic of Congo Kivu Value Chain Activity. The goal of the activity is to increase household incomes and access to nutrient rich crops by linking small holder farmers to strengthened and inclusive value chains and supportive market services. USAID anticipates a five year period of performance with a total estimated cost range of $22-24 million. The Value Chain Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day activities with private sector agricultural value chain actors. This position will be located in Bukavu, South Kivu, DRC.
Responsibilities: • Manage capacity building activities for value chain actors, including lead farmers; farmer cooperatives; value-added processors; consolidators; traders; exporters; seed and seedling; producers; agricultural input and equipment dealers; transportation companies; packaging; manufacturers; standards laboratories; drying, cleaning, sorting facilities; storage service; facilities; technical or consulting agencies; financial services providers; market information providers; technology developers; and government entities. • Review value chain business, investment, and/or sustainability plans • Develop M4P (market systems) approach for project activities, in collaboration with COP and DCOP • Liaise with Financial Services Specialist to expand access to financial services for project beneficiaries (private sector value chain actors) • Assist in the development of scopes of work for local grantees and subcontractors; Oversee local partner performance • Ensure integration organizational capacity development and conflict sensitivity into value chain activities • Contribute to the development of a self-sustaining market information system • Contribute to project activity monitoring, including quarterly and annual reporting
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, economics, or other value-chain-related field with 5 years of international experience with value chain development projects in the technical area of management responsibility. Master’s degree preferred. • Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders to build cooperative relationships. • Demonstrated success using facilitation in at least one of the following: the USAID value chain approach, M4P, or Market Systems Development approach, which led to greater competitiveness and inclusiveness in markets. • Demonstrated experience with conducting value chain analysis and developing value chain work plans • Knowledge of agricultural market information systems preferred. • Spoken and written fluency in English and French required.
