ActionAid commenced operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 1987 by providing relief to Burundian refugees who had crossed over to in the Eastern town of Uvira, South Kivu Province from Burundi. In 2002, it also supported emergency operations in North Kivu. Today, ActionAid DRC (AA DRC) works to promote structural change and build collaboration with governments, traditional authorities, civil society organizations (CSOs) and communities. AA DRC operates in seven provinces – North Kivu, South Kivu, Kasai Oriental, Kasai Central, Sankuru, Lomani and Kinshasa – that are home to an estimated 43 million people. AA DRC has offices in Kinshasa, Bukavu and Mbuji Mayi.
ActionAid DRC is seeking a skilled project manager to lead on the delivery of a four-year institutional donor funded project in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This is a short-term secondment position, while the post is between permanent appointees. The project is currently in Year Three and is being implemented with our local partner, CONAFED. It aims to tackle violence against women in urban spaces by improving safety and mobility in public spaces and holding governments accountable for the delivery of gender responsive public services which is part of ActionAid’s Global Safe Cities programme.
Could you help deliver the successful implementation of an urban VAWG project based in Kinshasa, DRC? Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in a new context and be part of a team working to deliver improvements in gender responsive public services for women and girls?
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Provision of strong leadership to the project and technical programmatic and capacity building support to the partner organization (CONAFED).
oversee all aspects of project implementation, ensuring the project remains on track to deliver according to the theory of change, logical framework and donor requirements, and in line with ActionAid’s Human Rights Based Approach and organizational values.
Leading on all the project cycle management processes, including planning, reporting, and M&E. overseeing the development of key project documents, you will work with colleagues and partner staff to produce accurate plans, budgets and reports to a high standard and in line with donor requirements.
Supporting the capacity building of our partner organisation, and the successful candidate will have proven facilitation, training and capacity building skills. Well versed in institutional contracts, you will work closely with our partner CONAFED to ensure that the project is implemented in compliance with donor requirements. Used to working in high pressure environments to tight deadlines, you will be able to think on your feet, manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines, as well as troubleshoot swiftly, effectively and diplomatically.
Desired Skills & Experience
Hold a degree in the relevant field with at least 5 years minimum working experience in the social development field, with at least three years’ experience on women’s rights and Gender Based Violence projects/programs. Have understanding of gender issues in development and demonstrable commitment to promoting gender equity within the organisation and in programme work.
Proven experience of developing, planning, managing and reporting on institutional donor-funded projects.
Strong writing and analytical skills and have experience of preparing quality narrative and financial reports for institutional donor-funded projects.
In-depth understanding of Programming issues and policy work at state, national and international levels.
Proven facilitation, training and capacity building skills.
Proven experience in social mobilisation and facilitating participatory processes at community level.
Candidates should be fluent in both written and spoken English and French.
