This is why we are looking for a dynamic, highly skilled and motivated individual to provide 9 months cover as the Regional Emergency manager in Central and Southern Africa. The individual will lead and drive CA Humanitarian and resilience work in the region
About the role
This is a 9 months cover as the Regional Emergency Manager for Central and southern Africa, the post will either be based in Goma or Kinshasa. You will develop, lead and manage Christian Aid’s humanitarian, resilience and disaster risk reduction programmes in the region including the current Irish Aid supported work in Burundi and DRC. You will play a key role in improving the capacity of Christian Aid staff and partners to prepare for, mitigate against the impact of and respond to natural and man-made disasters ensuring best practice in our humanitarian programmes.
You will support the country programs to develop and manage an effective portfolio of humanitarian programs in DRC, Burundi, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Specifically, you will assist program staff in humanitarian program design, implementation, fundraising and partnership development. You will also provide surge capacity for emergency response in Central and Southern Africa.
You will support broader thinking and strategy development across the Humanitarian division and CA relating to innovative humanitarian and resilience programs ensuring good program practice.
Lastly, you will have an external facing element, helping CA engage in the right networks of donors/other humanitarian agencies, increasing the profile of CA humanitarian and resilience work, ensuring we are influenced by current good practise and opening up opportunities for new productive humanitarian collaborations in the region.
About you
To help make this happen, you will have considerable experience working internationally and an excellent understanding of and experience in humanitarian programmes in Central and Southern Africa. You will have a passion about accountability and putting affected populations at the centre of our work.
You will have a good knowledge of emergency relief, rehabilitation and development issues including capacity building tools and techniques, understanding of participatory vulnerability and capacity assessments, understanding of the partnership approach to emergency work. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to develop cross-organisational relationships and be confident in engaging with external networks and actors. You will have experience in supporting learning and development, have experience of working with local partners and understand linkages between humanitarian work and resilient livelihoods.
The role also requires fluency in both French and English
