‘Building peace through women’s economic empowerment and political participation’

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our DRC team, Alert’s largest country programme. This is a project manager position of the 4-year project ‘Tushiriki Wote (Let’s all participate!)’ – the largest in our DRC portfolio - building peace through women’s economic empowerment (small cross border trade) and political participation.

The project seeks to promote women’s civic, political and economic empowerment through knowledge, networking, high visibility and advocacy, and it will be implemented in partnership with civil society actors in DRC, Rwanda and Burundi.

You will be responsible for the timely and effective implementation of the project and for coordination and synergy across a total of 15 local partners across three countries and in three provinces in DRC. In collaboration with the communication and advocacy specialist, other project staff and with relevant Alert personnel, you are accountable to develop, monitor and oversee a very ambitious and successful advocacy and networking strategy. You will be expected to nurture a close collaboration and relationship with government authorities, the donor, civil society and other external stakeholders.

Essential qualifications include extensive experienceof implementing large and complex peacebuilding or development programmes in the DRC or in a similar context. Substantial NGO project management experience, including responsibility for contract management and donor relations, and proven experience of managing many staff remotely is a must. Furthermore, we are looking for proven experience in women political and economic empowerment, masculinities and involvement of men in gender-relational approaches and familiarity with conflict-sensitive approaches. In addition, experience of developing and nurturing constructive relationships with local partners (governmental and non-governmental) is essential as well as an excellent working knowledge (spoken and written) of both French and English.
