Hands-on with proven experience in child protection and education in emergency settings

Your challenge

As the Project Coordinator Protection and Education in Emergencies you bear the overall responsibility of the implementation of the ECHO funded actions targeting children affected by conflict in communities in Fizi, Shabunda and Kalehe Territories, South Kivu in DR Congo. You are responsible for the coherent implementation of the project in all sites, in close collaboration with the field teams.

Programme implementation

  • Responsible for timely implementation of the ECHO funded programme;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of implementation and quality of the projects in compliance with donor requirements including quality reporting to donor;
  • Identify donors and contribution to development of project proposals.

Management of staff and capacity building

  • Support management of, coordinate activities and build capacity of the implementation team;

  • Asses and develop capacity of local partners, including community based actors.

    Networking, representation and communication

  • Ensure appropriate communications, information exchange and sharing within and between the project teams in the project locations and with OCHA and UNHCR in Bukavu;

  • Maintain productive relationships with NGO’s, communities, local governments, the UN and donors;

  • Ensure delivery of quality communication products to inform the donor as well as the general public in the Netherlands.

    Finance

  • Ensure that the project’s budget lines related to the activities are executed in a timely manner avoiding over or under spending;

  • Assure that expenses on the activity budget lines are eligible and efficiently used.

Profile

  • 4 + years of experience with project development and implementation within an international organization operating in an humanitarian and failed states context;

  • 3 + years of field experience with community development;

  • 2 + years of experience in protection of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP’s);

  • 2 + years field experience with humanitarian coordination;

  • 1 + year field experience working in emergency interventions;

  • Knowledge of child rights based programming;

  • Thorough knowledge on child protection and education in emergency settings;

  • Knowledge of participatory planning and programming methods;

  • Ability to assess social/ political situations and to act in a diplomatic way in delicate situations;

  • Ability to organize means & staff to reach goals.

  • Team player and hands-on mentality;

  • Result focused and cost-conscious;

  • Fluency in French (verbal and written) English and Swahili are an asset.

    Contract:01 April 2017 - 31 March 2018, option to extend depending on

    funding
