Angola: Health Program Manager

People in Need (PIN) has been active in Angola since 2006. Team of 8 expatriates and approx. 70 local staff manage programs focused on improving education, livelihoods and food security, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) conditions and gender-based violence. The Health Program Manager (H-PM) is responsible for the successful implementation of the entirety of the Health Program (HP) and its various thematic components. He/she is also accountable for the further development of the health sector as a whole, at the country level.

Main responsibilities:

  • Overall health program management - M-health and Nutrition programs
  • Direct responsibility for M-health project management and implementation
  • Supervises and supports Nutrition Projects’ overall quality and reviews technical training materials drafted by Project Managers
  • Develops methodologies and tools for assessments, baselines and/or any other research activities
  • Provides and/or approves methodologies, tools, baselines etc., to Project Managers
  • Local team management and capacity building
  • Regular monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Reporting to HQ and donors
  • Cooperation with partners, donors, local authorities and communities

Main requirements:

  • Degree in medicine (medical doctor) or nursing
  • Experience in working with community health programs and overall health systems required, university degree in public health and/or IT is a plus
  • Experience in capacity building (local partners from civil society and government)
  • Sensitivity to crosscutting topics, especially gender and nutrition issues
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • At least intermediate knowledge of Portuguese essential (preferably with previous work experience in Portuguese-speaking countries or Angola in particular)
  • Experience in project management including project development, project implementation and project evaluation (PCM)
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative surveys for maternal and child-health related indicators and familiarity with data analysis and mapping software highly desired; general proficiency with IT use required.
  • Team management experience (at least 3 years in management positions)
  • Experience in working with communities in developing countries (experience living in a rural African context highly desired)
  • Very good communication and organizational skills
  • Team player
