Expert (m/f) for technical and social issues – focus: road engineering
in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo
The position is to be filled as soon as possible with an initial contract duration until 30 September 2017. Employment location will be Goma, DR Congo with regular duty trips to Masisi territory.
Job objectives and tasks
As expert (m/f) for technical and social issues, you will support and advise the head or project with road building activities.
Your most important tasks:
Design (including bill of quantity) and management of road rehabilitation measures and economic infrastructure such as market halls and storage facilities, ensuring the involvement of local communities
Development of a material supply control mechanism and site monitoring
Supervise, train and support the technical team in the project areas
Ensure community owernship and mobilization during the construction process in close collaboration with Ministries, partner NGOs/associations, local authorities, community leaders and beneficiaries
Develop and implement a strategy for capacity building of national contractors, involved ministries and other stakeholders
Support the WASH coordinator in the construction of WASH infrastructures and related activities
Ensure regular monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the project activities
As a qualified applicant, you possess:
A university/university of applied sciences degree in engineering or a comparable specialised qualification suitable to the position
Several years of project experience in civil engineering for international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region
Full Autocad proficiency
Ability to manage and work in a team
Good mental and physical resilience and willingness for duty trips in rural areas
Co-ordination and organisation skills even under heavy work pressure
A very good oral and written command of French and English is mandatory, a good command of Swahili is an advantage
